Diversey, a cleaning and hygiene technology company based in Charlotte, has named industry executive Mark S. Burgess as its new chief executive officer.

He will begin Dec. 17.

Previously, Burgess was CEO of Signode Industrial Group, a $2.4 billion industrial packaging company with 88 manufacturing facilities across six continents.

Burgess will be replacing Dr. Ilham Kadri who will leave the company at the end of the year for another executive role.

Chief Financial Officer Carlos Sagasta and the Global President of the Professional Division Gaetano Redaelli — who have been serving as joint interim CEOs — will return to their positions and report to Burgess.

“I’m honored to join Diversey, a company with a rich heritage, a legacy of innovation, and an enduring focus on customer service,” said Burgess in a statement. “Diversey is well-positioned for the future as we continue to invest in innovation to drive growth while delivering increased value for our customers.”

Burgess has served as CEO at several companies including Graham Packaging and Anchor Glass Container Corp.

As CEO, Burgess oversaw the IPO and sale of Graham Packaging Co. to Reynolds Group Holdings in 2011.

Burgess holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dickinson College and a Master’s of Business Administration from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Privately held Diversey has 9,000 employees and annual revenue of $2.6 billion.
