RSC Chemical Solutions to Lay Off 66 Employees in Charlotte Region

RSC Chemical Solutions, an automotive products company, announced the layoff of 66 employees at the company’s manufacturing headquarters in Indian Trail, North Carolina, according to a filing with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

“Now is the time to reposition RSC to ensure profitable growth and adapt to shifts in our market, which means dedicating more resources to research and developing new products that help solve problems,” said Chief Executive Officer Mike Guggenheimer to the Charlotte Business Journal.

Guggenheimer emphasized that the company will work only with a domestic manufacturing company to make the products as opposed to outsourcing the production overseas.

RSC Chemical Solutions filed a WARN Act to announce it is laying off the employees as a way of implementing “a reduction in force.” The layoffs will begin on or around March 31, 2018, and are expected to continue through or around June 30, 2018.

According to the filing, all layoffs will result in permanent employment loss, meaning all employees subject to the reduction in force will eventually be terminated. There are no union employees at this location.

RSC says it will “be helping those affected” by the layoffs but didn’t elaborate on what aid will be offered to those employees.

RSC is a privately held automotive products company based in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 1924. It is one of the nation’s top automotive products producers and the second-largest producer of ancillary radiator products in the United States and Canada, employing over 250.

The notice was filed pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which must be filed 60 days in advance of a plant closing that affects more than 50 employees in a 30-day period or a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or between 50 to 499 employees if they make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
