Wilson-based Absolute Plastics Will Lay Off 100 Workers

1/16/18

Absolute Plastics will cut 100 workers at its facility located in Wilson, North Carolina, according to a filing with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

A “vast majority” of the employees, none of whom are represented by a union, to be terminated are at the production level.

The first layoffs occurred Jan. 9 and 10. The downsizing might continue for “several months thereafter,” according to the filing. It attributed the layoffs to losing customers.

Absolute Plastics manufactures sustainable, disposable and portable food containers, which are purchased and used by food processors, retail outlets and food service distributors.

The company is a subsidiary of rePlanet Holdings Inc., according to its website. Absolute Plastics has a second factory in Visalia, California.

Due to the WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act, companies are required to submit WARN notices to the North Carolina Department of Commerce to announce pending layoffs.
