Porter’s Group Lays Off 133 Workers in Kings Mountain

11/15/17

Porter’s Group, a manufacturer of custom metal products, has closed its Kings Mountain, North Carolina, facility, resulting in 133 lost jobs, according to a filing with the Department of Commerce.

The Kings Mountain facility, located at 133 Industrial Drive, closed effective Nov. 10. The facility opened in mid-2016.

“The reason why we decided to have a mass layoff because our business has declined over the last years,” said Chief Operating Officer Ray Patterson in the filing.

“We have lost business for various reasons including but not limited to customer moving productions to overseas manufacturer,” Patterson added. “The reduced revenue forces us to consolidate our manufacturing footprint. We simply don’t have enough business to keep 4 manufacturing facilities and unfortunately had to make the decision to close our Kings Mountain facility.”

Porter’s Group has three other facilities located in Sumter, South Carolina; Garland, Texas; and Lynchburg, Virginia.

The notice was filed pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which must be filed 60 days in advance of a plant closing that affects more than 50 employees in a 30-day period or a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or between 50 to 499 employees if they make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
