JOMO makes it easy for people in Charlotte to be more active and do more of what they love
JOMO, an app that makes it easy to spontaneously find great things to do and people to do them with, is teaming up with dozens of Charlotte’s favorite businesses to give people the chance to win amazing prizes and experiences. The local North Carolina-based startup encourages people to be more active in the local community by doing what they love, from biking and sports to photography and thousands of other activities.
Launching today, JOMO is giving Charlotteans the opportunity to win great prizes like free beer for a year thanks to Unknown Brewery, free trips to all remaining Carolina Panthers’ games courtesy of Roaring Riot, and great tickets to The Fillmore’s shows. The prizes represent a wide range of interests and showcase some of the exciting activities in Charlotte, while highlighting JOMO’s support of local businesses.
JOMO stands for ‘Joy of Missing Out’, and the company encourages people to miss out on the noisy online world and instead be active in the real world. The JOMO app allows people to easily create and attend activities with friends, but also makes it easy to connect and do things with new people who share your interests. Just choose what you’re into, and JOMO shows relevant activities happening near you.
Everyone who downloads JOMO and creates an account will be given four entries to win. For additional opportunities to win, JOMO is giving users one entry for each person that joins one of their events. The winners will be announced after 30 days and each participant is eligible for all of the available prizes, however each user can only win one.
“We wanted to give the Charlotte community the chance to win meaningful prizes while encouraging them to get involved in fun activities and events in the local area,” said George Taylor III, Founder and CEO of JOMO. “JOMO is all about connecting and doing cool things, from pick-up basketball to going to a concert. JOMO is also committed to supporting non-profits that promote being active and engaged in the real world, and is donating $1 per download to its partner, the Cam Newtown Foundation, to support children’s activities in local schools. To date, JOMO has raised $5,000 for the Cam Newton Foundation.
With the release of the JOMO app, the company has created a new category of apps (micro-activities) and looks to confront society’s growing obsession with social media, with the average person looking at their phone over 110 times a day for over four hours.
