Gray Assumes New Role After Serving as Interim Managing Principal

Cushman & Wakefield announced today that Brett Gray has been named Managing Principal of the firm’s Charlotte operations.

Gray’s new role involves strategic leadership of the Charlotte region, driving Cushman & Wakefield’s high-performance culture that provides industry-leading services motivated by clients’ business objectives. Additionally, Gray will guide recruitment of top talent locally to grow existing service lines and expand into new arenas. He leads the Charlotte region’s 134 Cushman & Wakefield professionals, including 21 brokers, and an Asset Services platform with a portfolio of 7.2 million square feet. Gray, who has led Charlotte Asset Services since 2012, assumes the Managing Principal role after serving in an interim position since May.

“We have an outstanding team in place and tremendous opportunities ahead,” said Gray. “Charlotte is a critical market for our Southeast strategy as we refine our alignment across the region to best serve existing clients and develop new business. With our thriving economy and world-class talent, the Charlotte region provides an excellent base from which to grow our brand and serve clients ranging from startups to the Fortune 500 and leading global institutions.”

Over the past three months, Cushman & Wakefield engaged in an extensive evaluation of potential candidates for Charlotte Managing Principal, and Gray won the role outright, said John O’Neill, who leads Cushman & Wakefield in Atlanta and the Carolinas.

“Brett understands and can drive Cushman & Wakefield’s culture better than anyone,” O’Neill said. “He’s a proven industry and community leader who’s well respected by his colleagues for his ability to think strategically and then act and implement those strategies. With Brett at the helm, we are perfectly positioned to be the top commercial real estate services firm in the Charlotte market.”

Under Gray’s leadership, Cushman & Wakefield’s Charlotte Asset Services portfolio has doubled revenue in the past five years. Similarly, Cushman & Wakefield’s Charlotte office has added industry-leading talent such as Executive Director Jessica Brown; Senior Director Keith Bell; and Director Matt Treble; as well as Ken Loeber and Terry Rennaker, President, Americas, of Project & Development Services (PDS) and Senior Managing Director, PDS, respectively; and Vice Chairman Marc Robinson and Executive Managing Director Jordan McCarley, who joined Cushman & Wakefield upon the firm’s acquisition of Multi Housing Advisors in 2016.

Prior to Cushman & Wakefield, Gray was President of Percival McGuire Commercial Real Estate Management. He serves on the Board of Managers of the Charlotte YMCA, the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Rescue Mission and the Board of the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds IREM’s CPM designation.
