Waterfront lots available for vacation homes on private, peaceful mountain lake

Crescent Communities has opened a new phase of its Lake James second-home community, known for its pristine shorelines, miles of hiking trails, resort-style amenities and activities, and convenient access to the best of western North Carolina.

Sixteen homesites are now available in the new phase of Lake James, including seven waterfront lots.

Lake James is a hidden treasure for couples and families seeking a second-home getaway. The lake winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The community’s setting on the lake, amid forest with mountain views, has attracted residents from as close as Charlotte and as far as New York, Florida, and Ohio.

“It’s a stunning location for building your dream home, experiencing remarkable natural beauty, and reconnecting with your family,” says Crescent Vice President James Martin. “You can have peacefulness and solitude here, but also create community.” The lake itself covers more than 6,510 acres, with some 150 miles of shoreline to explore.

What makes Lake James distinctive?

Environmental Stewardship. In partnership with the Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina, Crescent Communities has set strong environmental protections in place to keep the lake water pure. Substantial tree buffers around the lake protect the water quality.

Lake James is surrounded by protected lands, including the Pisgah National Forest, the oldest national forest in the United States.

Building Practices. Home buyers may choose their own architect, and all homes adhere to Lake James guidelines to preserve the beauty of the community. Exterior colors and materials of each home are designed to blend with the natural surroundings. Homes are not visible from the lake. Tree buffers down to the lake make for beautiful, clear water.

Rather than asphalt and concrete producing runoff, swells and natural rock beds collect rainwater as a natural filter before the rainwater reaches the lake.

Activities. Experiences at the lake range from adventure and communing with nature to socializing with family and friends. Residents enjoy swimming in the spacious pools, kayaking on the lake, hiking on miles of trails, nearby golfing and skiing, and visiting the mountains and charming small towns.

Like something active? Play tennis, work out in the indoor fitness facility, fish, or hike on miles and miles of nature trails. The community’s Expedition Center is outfitted with canoes, kayaks and fishing equipment for residents’ use.

A full-time activities director organizes events throughout the year, including wine tastings, camping and ski trips, and holiday parties. Bonfires on the beach, movies under the stars, volleyball games, and cooking classes are all popular. The Lakeside Adventure Center is a spot for roasting marshmallows with friends at the amphitheater fire pit, relaxing in the hot tub, or even hosting a party in the Grand Pavilion.

And more nearby. The community is close to extraordinary recreational spots, including the 500,000-acre Pisgah National Forest and Lake James State Park, North Carolina’s 2014 State Park of the Year. Lake James is a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest and dozens of waterfalls. Asheville, with its great restaurants, colorful arts scene, and eclectic shopping, is less than an hour away.
