Stanley Furniture Co. reported a second-quarter profit on slightly lower sales after reporting a loss in the same quarter a year ago due to lower expenses, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The High Point-based company reported net income of $14,000 in the second quarter after posting a $1.4 million loss in the second quarter of 2016.

Revenues for the quarter fell to $11.6 million from $12.1 million in the second quarter of last year.

Selling, general and administrative expenses were $2.7 million, or 23.6 percent of net sales, down from SG&A expenses $3.5 million, or 29.1 percent of net sales, in the second quarter of 2016.

“We continue to see the signs of an inflection point in the recovery of our business with another quarter of sequential improvements in sales, gross profits and income,” stated Chief Executive Officer Glenn Prillaman in a statement.

The company’s stock closed up 2 cents, up $1.23, on Tuesday.

The company had hired investment bank Stephens Inc. to review strategic alternatives but that relationship expired in June.

Stanley said that its board and management are focused on implementing the company’s business plan, and the board remains committed to “maximizing long-term value for the company’s stockholders and will continue to evaluate strategic alternatives.”
