City block in urban core is remade with luxury apartments, retail

The reimagining of a key block in Uptown Charlotte is nearing completion of its second phase, as the luxury mixed-use SkyHouse Uptown’s South Tower officially opens June 22.

With the grand opening of the new tower, Novare Group and BCDC are delivering their second 24-story apartment building with street-level retail in the Fourth Ward neighborhood just a 5 minute walk from Trade & Tryon. It also adjoins SkyPark, the only amenity of its kind in the market.

“The second tower coming on line is very exciting for our partnership and the future residents, who will be part of one of the premier multi-family communities in the Southeast,” said Jim Borders, President, Novare Group. “SkyHouse Uptown combines the best of the high rise lifestyle with all of the hospitality for which Charlotte is known.”

Combined, the two towers represent 672 luxury apartment homes and are a major step forward in the City’s North Tryon Vison Plan. The towers are strategically located to offer residents the advantage of being next to both the historic tree lined streets of 4th ward and the Uptown business/entertainment district. The new tower boasts the signature SkyHouse on the top floor, complete with a luxurious club house, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, swimming pool and an outdoor kitchen all with 360-degree views of the Queen City.

SkyHouse Uptown residents enjoy stylish apartment living in studio, one, two, and three bedroom homes with high-end finishes, floor-to-ceiling glass and private balconies. The project also has a bike repair shop and bike storage, a dog walk area and a dog wash area. SkyHouse projects are environmentally sustainable.

SkyPark is a .9 acre open park on top of the parking deck with a regulation size tennis court, an athletic field and two regulation bocce ball courts. There are also pergolas, several grilling and seating areas with fire pits, a putting green and a walking trail. SkyPark is for the exclusive use of SkyHouse residents.

The SkyHouse Uptown South Tower is the 17th SkyHouse delivered by the partnership this real estate cycle, following projects in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Tampa, Denver, Orlando, Nashville, and Raleigh. The SkyHouse program has started or delivered more than $1.5 billion in new mixed-use development. Led by Jim Borders and Novare Group, the SkyHouse team includes co-sponsor Batson-Cook Development Company, general contractor Batson-Cook Construction and architect Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart. BBVA Compass and SMBC are providing construction financing.

Novare Group developed Avenue and Catalyst, both on Church Street.

Batson-Cook Development Company built the Trademark condominium tower as well as the Courtside condominium project with David Furman. Batson-Cook Company, a related general contracting firm, was the general contractor on the Duke Energy Center and Hearst Tower.
