Another Broken Egg Cafe Teams with Eco-Products to Create Innovative New Compostable Containers

To-Go Containers Are Good for Customers and Good for the Environment

Another Broken Egg Cafe® has partnered with Eco-Products to create new to-go containers that are more convenient for guests – and more beneficial to the environment.

Another Broken Egg Cafe, one of the nation’s fastest growing breakfast and brunch restaurant concepts, is introducing compostable clamshells and bowls to all of its restaurants. The custom-designed containers are made from a renewable resource derived from the stalks of sugarcane.

“We want our guests to know that we care about them as well as the environment,” said Kevin Armantrout, chief operating officer of Another Broken Egg Cafe. “All of us want to do our part to protect the planet.”

Eco-Products custom-designed the 13-by-9-inch clamshell and 8-ounce bowl especially for Another Broken Egg Cafe. The containers function, in many ways, like traditional plastic or foam clamshells, but they’re made from renewable resources.

“Another Broken Egg Cafe is being smart, bold and innovative,” said Steve Rosse, vice president of product strategy and design at Eco-Products. “They’re showing true leadership in the marketplace, and they’re building loyalty among their customers by connecting a positive message to their restaurants: Together, we are doing the right thing for the planet.”

Another Broken Egg Cafe is well known for breaking the mold among restaurants. The chain offers a fresh, Southern-influenced breakfast and brunch menu – plus liquor and a variety of signature cocktails.

The original Broken Egg Cafe opened in 1996 in a renovated historical home in Louisiana. Guests adored the casual, quaint atmosphere and began asking when another “Broken Egg” would open. Two years later, the aptly named Another Broken Egg Cafe opened in Destin, Fla. with as much success as the first. From there, the franchise has grown to include more than 60 locations in 13 states and with dozens more locations in development.

Another Broken Egg Cafe is constantly looking for innovative ways to stay ahead of the crowd. So the chain decided to partner with Eco-Products to create the new to-go clamshells and bowls. Sturdy and versatile, the containers are freezer safe, microwave friendly, and grease- and cut-resistant.

“For customers looking for more sustainable packaging, these are attractive alternatives to petroleum-derived plastics or foam,” Rosse said. “Protecting the planet doesn’t mean sacrificing quality.”

The bowl – which comes with a compostable snap-on lid – and large clamshell were custom made for Another Broken Egg Cafe to fit and work with its many menu items sold on a “to go” basis. The containers are being introduced just as the award-winning restaurant chain is launching a new menu.

The menu is designed to be easier for guests to navigate and easier for staff, improving the speed of service at the restaurants. It includes three new pancake flavors in the new “Sweet Temptations” category, as well as two additions to the “Sensible Solutions” category: a special salmon-topped power bowl and a “Monterey Omelette” made with egg whites, baked chicken and a variety of fresh vegetables.

“We’re excited about our new menu and our new environmentally friendly containers,” Armantrout said. “We have a lot of great things going on right now.”
