North State Aviation is permanently closing its facility in Winston-Salem and laying off 345 employees as a result, according to a notice filed with the state Commerce Department.

North State Aviation began closing its facility on North Liberty Street on March 22 due to an unforeseeable, significant downturn in business, according to the WARN Act notice filed on March 22.

The company is a certified FAR 145 repair station with heavy maintenance, modification and repair capabilities for various Boeing aircraft models. North State Aviation attempted without success to obtain new capital and business to avoid or postpone permanent closure.

North State Aviation is not part of a union and bumping rights do not exist.

The company opened a second location in Kinston, North Carolina, in September of 2015, but it is unknown if the company plans to close this facility.

This notice was filed pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, which must be filed 60 days in advance of a plant closing that affects more than 50 employees in a 30-day period or a mass layoff of at least 500 employees or between 50-499 employees if they make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
