Baxter International Inc., a health care products and services firm, plans to add 90 new jobs to its Marion facility, according to Gov. Roy Cooper’s office on Wednesday.

Taylor Stave LLC, which makes wood products in Nebo, will also expand, adding 28 jobs.

Assisted by a $1 million One North Carolina Fund grant, Baxter will invest $7.4 million into the McDowell County expansion. That will cover positions including production techs, supervisors, engineers and machine operators, according to WLOS, a Western North Carolina ABC News affiliate.

Baxter manufactures medical equipment — such as IV solutions, anesthetics and surgical tools, as well as renal therapies, which is used to treat kidney disease or failure.

Salaries for the new jobs will average around $45,556 annually. McDowell County’s current average annual wage sits around $33,057, according to the release.

“North Carolina is proud to lead the nation in biomanufacturing,” Gov. Cooper said. “We’re pleased Baxter recognizes that North Carolina’s people, resources and business climate make it the ideal place to continue to grow.”

Baxter’s stock price was down 0.2 percent to $51.29 at open Wednesday morning, but grew to a high of $51.80 as of 2 p.m.

Taylor Stave, a manufacturer of wood barrels for wine and bourbon, will hire production operators and technical staff. Their annual payroll will total $872,000.

The six-year-old company will also receive a One North Carolina grant, worth $84,000, to help fund its $395,000 expansion.
