Community Blood Center of the Carolinas Introduces New Bloodmobile to Greensboro Region

11/17/16

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) believes its donors deserve only the best. That’s why the local nonprofit blood center is proud to introduce a new, state-of-the-art bloodmobile to the Greensboro region.

The latest addition to CBCC’s fleet of bloodmobiles was specifically designed with CBCC blood donors in mind. The bus features four plush donor beds with personal USB charging ports and two private history rooms. It also offers plenty of space for donors to stretch out and get comfortable while giving the gift of life to patients in local hospitals.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas relies on volunteer donors in the community to provide the more than 400 life-saving blood products required by the hospitals it serves each day. Providing an excellent experience for every donor remains a top priority for CBCC President and CEO Martin Grable.

“It’s a roomier, more comfortable bus than we’ve ever seen before,” Grable said. “There’s more headroom and aisle space, making it even easier to sit back, relax and donate. We strive to create the best possible experience for those in our community giving the life-saving gift of blood to patients in our hospitals.”

Consistent with CBCC’s community-focused mission, the company’s sixth bloodmobile was manufactured at Matthews Specialty Vehicles in Greensboro, home to the CBCC donor and distribution center for the Triad area. The bloodmobile’s custom wrap was completed by Pro Cal Decals in Concord.

“We talk about supporting community all the time, and we try to make all that we do local,” Grable said. “Five of our six bloodmobiles were purchased from Matthews Specialty Vehicles. We do that for two reasons: First, they are local; that’s what led us to MSV. Second, they make the best coach around, as evidenced by our new addition to the fleet.”

The bloodmobile will be based in the Greensboro region, a territory where the nonprofit continues to grow and is the blood supplier to Cone Health hospitals. Like all CBCC bloodmobiles, it will travel throughout the North and South Carolina counties served by CBCC as it increases collections to supply blood products for patients in its growing hospital base.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas has an average of seven mobile blood drives throughout the region each day, accounting for more than 60 percent of the center’s blood collections.

The new bloodmobile is already on the road and made its first community appearance Nov. 10 at Proehlific Park in Greensboro. Donors are encouraged to take a tour of the new bloodmobile and make a life-saving donation when the bus makes its next stop at a community blood drive near them.
