The Novant Health Charlotte Marathon is helping put the Queen City on the map throughout running communities around the country as one of the nation’s premium marathon races. It was selected to be among only 16 marathon partners – out of 1,100 timed marathons throughout the United States – in the USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance presented by Mazda for its quality event, location and local ownership.
“This race and city of Charlotte fit exactly with what we were looking for in a strong marathon partner in the Southeast,” said Bruce Revman, commissioner of the USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance. “We chose Charlotte and the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon because of the event’s tremendous leadership and commitment to runners, the race is locally owned, the welcoming Charlotte community, the overall race experience and size of the event.”
The USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance is a network that brings together many of the nation’s finest independent marathons and half marathons under one roof to share best practices and get exposure to markets where they may not have been able to reach. It is designed to allow marketers to efficiently navigate media, marketing and sponsorship opportunities through one centralized source.
Races within the USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance receive visibility from a national platform and benefit from the vast media resources and assets that both USA TODAY Sports and its parent Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), provide, thus delivering new partnerships, increased local and regional promotion and heightened editorial coverage.
Other marathon partners include: Santa Rosa Marathon, Eversource Hartford Marathon, Portland Marathon, Baltimore Running Festival, Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon, Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, South Padre Island Marathon, California International Marathon, Oakland Running Festival, Go! St. Louis Marathon, Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon, Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, OC Marathon, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon and the Utah Valley Marathon.
“To be chosen among sixteen premium races out of eleven hundred timed marathons in the United States is a huge honor,” said Tim Rhodes, race director of the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon. “Being part of the USA TODAY Sports Active Alliance has been very beneficial for our race by providing us with an invaluable network and support, and a great opportunity to get the Queen City and our race on the map in other markets around the country.”
The USA TODAY Sport Active Alliance will be part of the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon on Saturday, Nov. 12. Featuring a marathon, half-marathon, 5K run/walk, marathon relay and a kids 1 mile fun run, the event draws participants from around the United States. There are opportunities to run, walk, volunteer and cheer.
