CONWAY, S.C., Oct. 02, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vaught Eye Associates is pleased to announce that one of their optometrists, Dr. Barbara Horn, was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the American Optometric Association. She was sworn in during the association’s annual Optometry Meeting held in Boston, Massachusetts on July 2, 2016.
The American Optometric Association (AOA) represents over 39,000 doctors of optometry and numerous other eye care professionals. The AOA was founded in 1898 and is a federation of state, armed forces and student optometry associations. The AOA currently represents the entire profession of optometry in the U.S. They are in a leading role to preserve, protect and enhance eye and vision care for Americans of all ages.
Dr. Horn has been on the board of the AOA since June of 2011. She has served as chair of the Finance Committee as well as the Constitution and Bylaws committee. She is also a member of the Executive, Investment, and 401(k) Committees and will be board liaison to the Council on Research in the upcoming year.
In addition to these roles, Dr. Barbara Horn is an American Board of Optometry diplomate, past president of the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA), and in 2005, was recognized as MOA Young Optometrist of the Year. In 2006, she was named the AOA Young Optometrist of the Year, and in 2011, MOA’s Optometrist of the Year.
Dr. Horn is currently an optometrist on staff at Conway optometry clinic Vaught Eye Associates. She has previously served with the Special Olympics World Winter Games and the Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity. She is an associate member of the Michigan Optometric Association and also an active member of the South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association (SCOPA). She resides in Myrtle Beach with her husband, Dr. Mike Weisgerber, and their children.
