InterSouth Partners-backed Viamet Pharmaceuticals Holdings Closes $39.6 Million Offering - cbl

MORRISVILLE, N.C. --Viamet Pharmaceuticals Holdings LLC has closed a $39.60 million share offering, raising the amount from 11 investors, according to an SEC filing.
The Morrisville, N.C. -- based drug developer raised the amount for corporate reorganization. No cash consideration was provided and no non-affiliated third parties were involved in the offering in which common A shares, Series 1 and 2 preferred shares, Series A and B preferred shares were issued in exchange for common stock.
Principals named in the filing are:
· Chairman Douglas Reed, general partner, Research Triangle Park-based Hatteras Venture Partners;
· CEO Robert Schotzinger, M.D., Ph.D.;
· Treasurer and Secretary Neil Moore.
Also named in the filing were the following directors:
· James Rosen of Durham-based InterSouth Partners;
· William White III of Chicago-based Lurie Investments;
· Lauren Silverman of Novartis Option Fund, with offices in Cambridge, Mass.;

Robert J. Schotzinger, M.D., Ph.D.
President & CEO and Director
Dr. Schotzinger brings over 16 years of research, development and management experience to Viamet. Prior to joining the Company, Dr. Schotzinger was President and CEO of BioStratum Inc., a privately held biotechnology company based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. While at BioStratum, Dr. Schotzinger raised over $20 million in private equity financing and completed several key partnerships. He was also primarily responsible for moving the company's drug candidates PyridorinTM from phase I to phase 3, AngiocolTM from the candidate stage to IND approval, and multiple other programs from the research to candidate stage. Prior to this, Dr. Schotzinger held positions of increasing responsibility at Abbott Laboratories, including Director of International Medical Affairs and Vice President of Drug Development. While at Abbott, he gained experience in preclinical and clinical drug development and was involved in the filing and approval of multiple NDAs, SNDAs, ANDAs and INDs.
Dr. Schotzinger received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the Ohio State University. He subsequently obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and M.D. training from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He also completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia, which led to Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
Douglas Reed, M.D.,
Chairman
Doug joined Hatteras Venture Partners as a General Partner in early 2007. Prior to Hatteras, Doug had 14 years of venture investing experience with two healthcare-focused funds, Vector Fund Management and S.R. One. He has been involved in venture investment transactions for over 30 healthcare and life science companies and currently serves as chairman of Viamet, and a director of SpineAlign, Embrella and TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals.
In addition to his venture investing experience, Doug also has prior operational experience, having served as Vice President of Business Development for two publicly-traded biotechnology companies, NPS Pharmaceuticals and GelTex (acquired by Genzyme).
Doug earned a BA in biology and an MD from the University of Missouri and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a board certified neuro-radiologist and has held faculty positions in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington and Yale University.
James Rosen
General Partner, InterSouth Partners
Jimmy joined the life science team at Intersouth in 2005. Previously, he spent 15 years in clinical, research and financial positions in the health care and biotechnology sectors.
Jimmy worked on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation sponsored program at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was also an equity research analyst at Brean Murray & Co. for three years, covering biopharmaceuticals, genomics, generics, drug delivery and medical device companies. He has worked in clinical research roles at Duke University Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center and completed projects for the National Cancer Institute. At the beginning of his career in health care, Jimmy spent five years in Emergency Medical Services as a mountain search rescue and ambulance medic.
Jimmy holds a B.A. from Duke University, an M.B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School, and an M.S.P.H. from the UNC School of Public Health. He was a Carolina Venture Fellow at Kenan-Flagler, and recipient of the Frank Hawkins Kenan Award for Excellence. He currently serves on the Acceleration Advisory Committee for the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
William White
Executive Vice President, Lurie Investments
Mr. White has been the Executive Vice President of Investments at Lurie Investments, Inc. since April 2000. In this role, he is responsible for managing the investments of the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Family of Chicago, including its portfolio of Life Sciences and Technology investments. Prior to joining Lurie Investments, Mr. White was Managing Director of Corporate Investments at Equity Group Investments, LLC, where he was responsible for a portfolio of companies in a variety of industries. While at Equity Group, he also managed the organization's financing activities, including its relationships with investment banks and other financial institutions. Prior to joining Equity Group, he was Vice President of Corporate Banking at Manufacturers Hanover. Mr. White is a Director of Cernium Corporation, Impact Health, Inc., Joint Juice, Inc., Kionix, Inc., NanoInk, Inc. and Nephrion, Inc. He holds an A.B. degree from Dartmouth College.
Lauren Silverman, Ph.D.,
Managing Director, Novartis Option Fund
Prior to joining the Option Fund, Dr. Silverman was Global Head of Oncology Research Operations for Novartis. Previously, she spent much of her career in licensing and business development, first at OSI Pharmaceuticals and later at Pfizer with responsibilities in the areas of CNS, opthamology and oncology. Lauren was also a Director of Strategic Alliances and Head of Cell Biology where she led multiple research teams after having been a founding scientist of Cadus Pharmaceuticals. Lauren was a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Princeton University and earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Utah. She is the author of multiple scientific publications and several issued patents and serves on the Business Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Research Foundation's Epilepsy Therapy Project and National Cancer Institute's SBIR review panel. Lauren currently serves on the boards of Ascent Therapeutics, Proteostasis Therapeutics, Cequent Pharmaceuticals, and Viamet Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
S. Edward Torres
Managing Director, Lilly Ventures
Ed oversees Lilly Ventures, a venture capital subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company. Lilly Ventures manages $200M in capital and invests in start-up biopharmaceutical and medtech companies in North America and Europe. Ed brings 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and venture capital businesses to Lilly Ventures. Since co-founding Lilly Ventures, he has led the investments in, and previously served on the boards of, Serenex (acquired by Pfizer), Conforma Therapeutics (acquired by Biogen Idec), Cabrellis Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Pharmion Corporation) and Fluidigm. Ed currently sits on the boards of Cylene Pharmaceuticals, Trinity Biosystems, Viamet Pharmaceuticals and various non-profit institutions. Prior to joining Lilly Ventures, Ed had a diverse set of experiences throughout the domestic and international pharmaceutical businesses including operational finance, planning, M&A, business development and global marketing roles. Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D.
Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D. was the US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, Dr. von Eschenbach was Director of the US National Cancer Institute. Prior to his government service, he was an accomplished urologist and healthcare administrator. His medical career included several leadership roles at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center including Chair of the Department of Urology; founding Director of the Prostate Cancer Research Program; Director of the Genitourinary Cancer Center; Distinguished Chair in Urologic Oncology; and Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer.
